He had heard her, but had started asking the question before he could stop himself. "Lily... I..." he didn't know exactly how to come forward with this. "It wasn't you," he assured her. "It's just... I really, really liked it. Kissing you, I mean. And... it just sucks that I've gone and done something that feels so damn incredible, and all we can be right now is friends. I'm mad at myself. But I don't regret it. Kissing you was the best thing I've ever done," he said honestly. He reached his hand out for hers. God, why couldn't he be with her? Maybe their love was something that was worth dying for. Then again... he might be willing to, but he wasn't about to let her do the same.
"Yeah. We came together, and we got separated because Sirius saw some girl from Ravenclaw. She's been trying to hook up with him for years, but Sirius never gave her the time of day... until today. I'll bet it has something to do with the fact that she has boobs now. Meh... I give it three days tops," he laughed. He knew Sirius. He got bored easily. Never stayed in one place too long, and basically forgot about where he'd been after he was done being there. The Ravenclaw would get her wish for a day... maybe two. But then Sirius would move on.

Listening, she grabbed his hand and looked at him. She knew that he was being honest, but she just wanted to see if his expressions were showing just as much as his words were. They were and it lifted her spirits back to normal. She couldn't understand why they just couldn't be together. She didn't know any of his reasons, but she felt like ignoring his wishes and just kissing him again and actually be with him starting now, but surely, Lily was known to have some sort of respect for others. If he didn't want to, she guessed that it was her turn to wait.
Lily wrapped her fingers with James' and walked close to him. She could always love him in ways of a friend, right? Surely this was going to make it harder, but of course, she didn't mean to. It was just her love and well... as a teenage girl... hormones talking. She laughed at the thought of Sirius going after a big chested Ravenclaw. "If its only breasts, then its going to be one day. But if she actually has a personality, then I would agree that it will be three-tops," she smirked, knowing Sirius pretty well. Though not as well as James- that's for sure.
They had walked away from the ice cream parlour and towards the crowds. There were more people around than usual. "This is going to be a long day," she said, shocked. She guessed that since term hadn't started yet, that people were doing last minute shopping for Hogwarts or just going for the usual back-to-school sales for other items that adults were into. "If I was Sirius... Where would I be," she looked at James and raised her eyebrows. She knew the answer, but it was nice to play the detective with him.

James sighed. "He probably followed her to Puddifoot's," he said. He hated going there. He had taken a date there once. Once. Then he vowed never to go back. Sirius was the type who didn't mind. He could put up with the doilies and the pink hearts as long as he was sure he'd get something in return for his troubles later. "One of these days, I want a girl to go through Sirius. Maybe he'll learn his lesson after that. Who knows?" James wasn't one to talk. Before he decided that Lily Evans was the only girl for him, he dated just as much as Sirius did. Probably more. Though Sirius was considered very popular, and most girls found him good-looking, James had the advantage of being the captain of the Quidditch team.
"Ugh, I really don't want to go there," he said, stopping in his tracks and looking around. "I swear, I'm going to have to start blindfolding the prat so I don't keep losing him when we are supposed to stick together. It's like clock work. We step out of Gringotts and BAM, he goes chasing after some skirt."

Lily looked at the shop across the way: Puddifoots. The shop was decorated so lovely with hearts and so many romantic colors. "I've been there before. It's such a romantic place, I love it. Anyone who doesn't like it, just don't understand romance," she said, looking up at James, wondering what he would be thinking with her comment. She guessed he wasn't into Puddifoots from the way he expressed that he didn't want to go inside.
"Well last time I checked, you walked away from him too. So he had every right to venture around to find someone he thinks is attractive," she said, looking around the shop to see if he had gotten out and was done with his little date, but it seemed to be taking long. More started to fill up the streets of Diagon Ally. She moved closer to James so people wouldn't bump into her. She looked at James, and she gave a bright smile. "Let's go," she said, and she gently pulled him towards Puddifoots. "We'll quickly go in and out," she said, trying to compromise.

"Anybody who doesn't like it just isn't a woman," he said, eyeing it dubiously. "Any guy that takes his date there is either thoroughly whipped or is expecting something in return for it. But no self respecting male goes in there because he wants to." He was kind of glad now he was going to wait until after their seventh year. He wouldn't have to bring her here. He would gladly admit he didn't understand romance if it meant staying out of this horrible, hellish place.
"I didn't walk away from him. We stepped out of Gringotts and he said, 'I'll be right back mate!' And then he chases after the girl like an untried school youth, and there I was just standing there. You know, making these trips with Remus are so much more successful. At least he doesn't go bounding after anything with breasts." He planted his feet in the ground as she began to pull him. "I don't think so, Evans. Besides... Oh look! There he is," James said, relieved to see his best mate walking out of the horrible tea shop.

Sirius had gotten what he was after and now could go back and find James. Luckily, the task was made easier. "Hello there, Prongs," Sirius said. Then he looked at Lily. "Evans. How are you?" He smiled at them both, but there was an edge in his eyes. James had said he was going to stay away from Lily for her own protection. Then not two weeks later, here he was with Lily. And based on the way she was pulling on him and looking at him when Sirius first stepped out, he would say that Lily was at least a little smitten. That was the opposite of staying away for her own protection.
"Sorry mate. Didn't think it'd take that long, but she insisted on me bringing her here," he said. "Won't happen again." At least not with her. Decent kisser, but ultimately not what he was looking for. "So... what do we still need? I wanted to go check out Quality Quidditch Supplies later. I heard they just released a new broom. Want to check it out."

Lily wondered if that was true. Surely when she went, the guy she was on a date had wanted something in return, but she was smart enough to just leave it one sided and let her have the fun and leave him empty handed- at least with the exchange that the other guy wanted. She listened to him and understood what he meant, but she still thought the whole scenery was romantic.
She looked back at the shop and saw Sirius walk out of it. He came up to her and James and she smiled back at him. "Black. I am doing pretty well, yourself?" she asked, still on the last name-basis with James' best friend. Was it weird to be on that level with him or should it change a bit? She lost track of her thoughts when Sirius had given a look towards her, but mainly towards James. Was it the problem that was hard to explain that they were eying about? Lily was utterly confused, but she didn't let that get to her- at least not yet.
"A new broom already? Didn't they come out with one a couple months ago?" she thought out loud, thinking how fast things come out and how fast people buy them. "I'm excited for this term for quidditch," she said. What made Lily even more excited was that it was her first time on the team. She had wanted to try out last year, but she had too many classes that she had to complete for NEWT. But now, she was a bit freer and she wanted to spend it on something that she hasn't done as of yet.
